Sell or Lease Land for BNG

A clear route to long-term biodiversity delivery

BNG has created new opportunities for land to be managed for long-term environmental improvement.

Naturebank works with landowners to buy or lease suitable land and take responsibility for delivering and managing BNG.

Our approach is straightforward, proportionate, and designed to work alongside existing land ownership and management objectives.

How we work with landowners

Naturebank will either purchase land outright or agree a long-term lease, depending on what is most appropriate.

In both cases, Naturebank takes on responsibility for the creation, management, and monitoring of habitats for the required period.

This removes the burden of long-term delivery from the landowner.

A simple process

1. Initial discussion

We start with a conversation to understand the land, its context, and whether it may be suitable for BNG delivery.

2. Assessment and agreement

If the land is suitable, we explore the most appropriate structure, whether purchase or lease, and agree the basis for long-term management.

3. Delivery and management

Naturebank manages the land for BNG over the required period, including habitat creation, monitoring, and reporting.

Landowners are not required to manage habitats themselves.

What makes land suitable

Not all land is suitable for BNG, and suitability depends on a range of factors.

These may include location, scale, existing habitat condition, and planning context.

An initial conversation is the best way to explore whether land may be appropriate.

Long-term management, handled by Naturebank

BNG requires habitats to be managed and monitored for a defined period.

Naturebank takes on this long-term responsibility, providing confidence for planning authorities and certainty for landowners.

This approach allows landowners to benefit from BNG opportunities without taking on ongoing obligations.
